An opinion poll is a survey of public opinion from a particular sample. Opinion polls are usually designed to represent the opinions of a population by conducting a series of questions and then extrapolating generalities in ratio or within confidence intervals. An election exit poll is a poll of voters taken immediately after they have exited the polling stations. Unlike an opinion poll, which asks whom the voter plans to vote for or some similar formulation, an exit poll asks whom the voter actually voted for. A similar poll conducted before actual voters have voted is called an entrance poll. Pollsters — usually private companies working for newspapers or broadcasters — conduct exit polls to gain an early indication as to how an election has turned out, as in many elections the actual result may take hours or even days to count. If a referendum on the constitution was to be held then most Kenyans would vote for the pure presidential system of government. This is according to the latest opinion poll by Synovate Kenya. The poll shows that 49 per cent of Kenyans want to directly vote for a president who becomes both the Head of State and Government with proper checks and balances. The hybrid system follows closely with 31 percent and the pure parliamentary system taking third place with 18 percent. This poll comes on the back of the Parliamentary Select Committee on constitution meeting in Naivasha agreement on a pure presidential system where cabinet ministers will not be members of parliament. Channel 4 news commissioned an opinion poll from Yougov, and the results are shocking. Despite EVERYTHING that has gone on, and how New Labour created the UK’s worst recession the UK has ever had, people STILL think there should be no public sector cuts, whilst the rapidly sinking private sector is shrinking paying for the non-wealth generating public sector. A hung parliament would be just as disastrous as re-electing New Labour, the international money markets keeping the UK afloat have shown this earlier this week, and the UK has lost it’s AAA credit rating now, despite the rating agencies not officially announcing it. Recorded from Channel 4 News, 04 March 2010.

Even as parliament prepares to vote on the draft constitution ahead of the impending constitution referendum, a new opinion poll indicates that nearly 70 per cent of Kenyans know very little or nothing about the actual contents of the crucial constitution. The poll by Synovate, former Steadman group, also indicates that if a constitution referendum were to be held today, then 40 per cent of potential voters would have voted for it, while 25 per cent would have rejected it, with 30 per cent still undecided.
