Question: When do you give a thumbs up, a thumbs down, or report a violation?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Me personally? For advice: Thumbs up if I feel an answer is informative, and helpful, correct or if I agree. A thumbs down if I feel the answer is very, very wrong, is totally uninformed, dangerous, or really disagree. I will send a violation report if cussing, extremely extremely callous and rude. For pure “opinion/poll” questions I rarely give a thumbs down, unless I feel the answer is due to misinformation. Thumbs up if my opinion is the same (rather than repeating the same answer)

And…what questions do you choose to answer and why? Just to gather points? To try to honestly help the person with your answer? To try to educate to “help” the dogs? To “soapbox” to try to prevent with the dog overpopulation? I don’t care to gather points. I do answer with knowledge from my experience of decades raising, training and showing dogs. Many questions I do not have the knowledge to answer. Many more questions I just don’t care to answer (like what to name a dog). Many questions I don’t feel like spending the vast amounts of time required to answer, particualrly if I have already answered it once. I have sent “violation” notices of some questions as the question or asker was extremely “foul” and used very abusive language.

I know what you are saying! I only rate an answer if it is a great one, or really off track. If their ‘opinion’ differs form mine, I leave it alone. That’s their opinion on what to name the dog, what color eye shadow to wear, and the like.

i only report, as you, serious violations- such as language or situations that are obviously not good for anyone to read.

People should be more careful on the thumbs up/down rating. For example, if I say animal testing is good or bad, and give my reason when someone ask for my opinion, then that is my opinion. Disagree mwith it, explaing why I am wrong, and try to conince others to come to your side. A cowardly thinbs down is just that- useless and cowardly!

Edit- honestly, I would love for their to be a space for someone to write in why they give it a thimbs up/down. I think a lot of people just thumbs down for the sake of doing it!
